It happens all the time.

Successful leaders- people with great business acumen, great teams and great vision- are moving along, growing their companies when, all of a sudden, they fall flat on their faces.

Their businesses start hemorrhaging money. Their best people start jumping ship. Their families start falling apart.

And they sit at their desks with their heads in their hands wondering, “How did this happen?”

I’ll tell you how it happened. They were blown up by a problem they never saw coming.

I call these problems “leadership landmines” because unless you’re consciously looking for them, they’re nearly impossible to spot. They’re buried in the grind of daily life, quietly waiting to injure and perhaps even destroy the next unsuspecting leader who steps on them.

Before I go on, I need to tell you that what I’m writing is based on personal experience. At one time or another in my career, I’ve stepped on landmines like the ones I’m about to describe. In some cases, I even have the scars to prove it.

If you’re moving and active, you’re bound to have a painful encounter with a landmine every now and then. It’s just the nature of leadership. But there are certain landmines that will absolutely wipe you out if you’re not careful, and those are the ones that really deserve our attention.

A friend once told me, “If I could kick the person most responsible for most of my problems, I would not be able to sit down for a week.” From my own life and the lives of the leaders I’ve observed over the years, I have found that to be absolutely right. Most leaders I watch don’t need to worry about the competition beating them. Instead, they need to be concerned about doing something stupid in the race and disqualifying themselves.

Is there anything you’ve got to resolve? How can we turn the failure into success?

This might be one of our New Year’s resolutions for 2009 and maybe most of you have had numbers of list of your own. When we reflect of our yesterday’s failures; the natural reaction is to blame someone and that someone blames others when things go wrong. For those who followed the history of Adam & Eve back in the Garden of Eden; Yaweh God enquired Adam why did they eat the forbidden fruit trees?” Naturally, Adam said, “The woman that you gave to be with me–she gave to me from the tree, and I ate.” Yahweh God said to the woman, “Why did you do this? The woman said, the serpent defrauded me, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:12-14) We all knew what happened next; God reprimanded the serpent. It’s pity though, the serpent has nobody to blame but all of them were reprimanded according to their own actions?

This is no JOKE and it’s tough when we face the consequences! Are we learning from our failures instead of blaming others?  John Maxwell stated in his book “Your Road Map for Success” – “The next time we fail, think about why we failed instead of who was at fault. Try to look at it objectively for the betterment. People who blame others for their failures never overcome them. They simply move from problem to problem. To reach our potential, we must continually improve ourselves and we can’t do that if we don’t take responsibility for our actions and learn from our mistakes.”

The great thing about it is we can even LEARN to succeed from the failures or mistakes of others before we choose which way? We could not really blame others than our own selves, aren’t we? Because we saw those mistakes or failures from others but we as human being often ignored to be wise but a fool! The worst scenario is when we fail again and again because we keep on blaming others. Let’s blame ourselves and start to do something about it to succeed whatever kinds of life’s situations or business we are in.
